Wood Fence Benefits

Wood fences are a classic and enduring option for homeowners who value both function and beauty. At North Sound Fence, we build every wood fence using top-tier materials—like #1 grade Western Red Cedar and true 4×4 pressure-treated posts—to ensure long-term performance and aesthetic appeal. We also use stainless steel nails and offer a true 9′ post set for added strength and stability.

Whether you’re aiming for total backyard privacy, a decorative front-yard accent, or something custom in between, wood fences are a flexible choice. From clean horizontal lines to decorative tops or custom gates, it’s easy to personalize your fence to reflect your style.

Aesthetic Appeal

Wood fences offer a warm, natural look that blends beautifully with landscaping and home design, adding instant charm to your yard.

Customizable

From fence height and board spacing to stylish add-ons like trellis or custom gates, wood fencing offers almost unlimited design options to match your vision.

Privacy

A properly built wood fence can provide full visual and physical privacy—ideal for backyards, pools, and areas close to neighbors.

Noise Barrier

Thicker wood panels help dampen sound, creating a quieter, more peaceful environment—especially helpful in high-traffic or city areas.

Longevity

When built with premium materials and quality construction, wood fences can last for decades with proper care and maintenance.

Increase Property Value

A well-built wood fence enhances curb appeal and adds value to your home by improving both appearance and functionality.

Professional Wood Fence Installation

Stronger From The Ground Up

Not all fences are built the same, and at North Sound Fence, we believe strength starts below the surface. That’s why we use true 4×4 pressure-treated posts—not the smaller, cheaper alternatives you’ll find elsewhere—and set them deeper into the ground with 9′ post lengths. This ensures your fence has a stable, sturdy foundation that resists leaning, warping, and sagging over time.

Beyond the posts, our construction techniques make a difference too. We use smart spacing and bracing methods designed to distribute weight evenly and hold up against harsh weather, including strong winds and heavy rain. Locally sourced western red cedar, our wood of choice, pairs naturally with these methods thanks to its lightweight strength and durability.

By focusing on structural integrity, we’re not just building fences—we’re building peace of mind. A well-built fence from North Sound Fence doesn’t just look good when it’s installed; it continues to perform and protect your space for years to come, with less need for repair or adjustment.

Family-Friendly & Pet Safe Fence

When it comes to your home, safety and comfort for your family is always top priority—and that includes your pets. A solid wood fence provides a secure barrier that keeps your little ones and furry friends safely inside your yard, away from traffic and neighborhood hazards. With the right height and spacing, you won’t have to worry about curious climbers or escape artists finding a way out.

But safety doesn’t have to come at the cost of style. Wood fences offer a warm, natural appearance that feels inviting rather than imposing, so you can enjoy both function and curb appeal. Whether you’re hosting a backyard birthday party or letting the dog out for a morning run, a well-built wood fence helps make your outdoor space more enjoyable and worry-free.

At North Sound Fence, we build every wood fence with care, using high-quality materials and thoughtful designs tailored to your yard’s layout. We’ll help you choose the right layout, height, and finish to make sure your fence fits seamlessly into your life—providing peace of mind for years to come.

Why Choose A Wood Fence?

Living in the Pacific Northwest means embracing nature—and that’s exactly what a wood fence does best. Natural wood blends beautifully with the evergreen landscapes and lush surroundings of this region, offering a timeless aesthetic that feels right at home. Western red cedar, in particular, is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects, making it an ideal material for our damp climate.

Wood is also breathable and adaptable to changing conditions. It expands and contracts with the weather, which helps it last longer in our moisture-rich environment compared to more rigid materials. This flexibility, combined with smart design and quality materials, helps prevent issues like cracking, swelling, and early wear.

Plus, wood’s adaptability extends beyond the weather—it’s perfect for our region’s varied terrain. Slopes, curves, and tight spaces are no problem. Wood fencing can be customized to follow the contours of your yard, providing privacy and structure without sacrificing flow or beauty. If you’re looking for a material that’s not just beautiful, but built for the PNW—wood is the natural choice.

How To Maintain Your Wood Fence

A well-built wood fence can last for many years, especially when it’s properly maintained. At North Sound Fence Company, we want to make sure your fence stays strong, beautiful, and functional long after installation day. That’s why we offer helpful tips to keep your fence in top condition year-round.

Routine maintenance starts with regular inspections. We recommend checking your fence seasonally for any signs of wear, such as loose boards, fading, rot, or insect damage. Catching these issues early makes repairs easier and prevents small problems from turning into big ones. Keeping grass, shrubs, and soil from building up around the base of the fence also helps minimize moisture exposure, which can extend the life of the wood.

If your fence is stained or sealed, reapplication every few years will protect it from UV rays and rain. Whether you have questions, need expert advice, or want help down the line, North Sound Fence Company is here for the long haul—because great fences deserve great care.

We had such a great experience working with North Sound Fence from start to finish. Denise was incredibly responsive and really took the time to understand our situation, which made the whole process feel easy and personalized. She communicated clearly throughout and made sure everything stayed on track.

The installation crew was just as impressive — they were professional, respectful of our property, and genuinely nice to work with. They showed up on time, worked efficiently, and paid attention to the details, which really shows in the final result.

The fence itself looks amazing and completely transformed our backyard. The quality of the work is top-notch, and it feels sturdy and built to last. You can tell they take pride in what they do. Overall, we’re extremely happy with the outcome, feels safe to use our backyard with my kids now, and would absolutely recommend North Sound Fence to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality fencing work!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We lost part of our chain link fence when large tree limbs crushed it in a recent wind storm. North Sound responded quickly, made the repair efficienctly, communicated with us along the way, and all at a fair price. I would not hesitate to use them again in the future and would recommend them to anyone. Frankly, I could not have asked for better service!

North Sound Fence does an amazing job. We hired them over a year ago to put in a large fence around our property. We had a hog wire fence, a privacy fence, and stair railings put in. They did an amazing job. Recently a tree fell on our house and we had to have a section of the fence replaced. They gave us a fair price and came out same week to place it. Everyone we talked to was so nice and helpful. We were able to send a picture of the damaged panel and they responded right away and helped us. They also had the best pricing for the types of fences we wanted to install. They have fair pricing and great communication. We definitely recommend them to anyone needing a fence or fence repairs.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. North Sound Fencing replaced our 18 year old cedar fence a few months ago. Sean and his crew did a great job. They were reliable, left a very clean job site at the end of each day, completed the project as promised. A few weeks later we noticed some of the boards needed replacing, Sean promptly responded and replaced the areas of concern. We are very pleased with our new fence and would have no concerns recommending North Sound Fencing

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. North Sound did our fence replacement back in 2019 at our old house. One of the posts ended up twisting (which can happen with wood), but they came out right away and fixed it. We were so happy with their work that we hired them again for our new house!

Sean and his crew are awesome — super professional, friendly, and really detail-oriented. The quality of their work is top notch. Highly recommend them if you need a fence done right!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We needed to replace our back fence and I found North Sound Fence online and called them up. Shawn came out a couple days later and I was really impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. He gave me a bid that had several scenarios. I felt their price was very reasonable compared to some of the other bids I got from other companies. Later I had a few questions and called up the office and spoke to Denise. She was super friendly and helpful. She was also very knowledgeable but checked with Shawn on a few things she wasn’t sure about. After I told them what I wanted to do, they set up the dates to come do the project (just a couple weeks later). They came out on the day they told me. Shawn was there pretty much the whole time with his crew. All of them were very respectful and friendly. They took the old fence down in one day, hauled it off, and set the posts. A couple days later, after the concrete had hardened, they came out and finished. They were quick and did a great job. I had some really difficult spots near some large bushes and structures in the neighbor yard. They figured out how to get it done and cleaned up everything before they left. I would 100% recommend North Sound Fence.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. North Sound Fence is the name you can trust. Their skilled team proved dedicated, exceptional, reliable service. We had a fence needing quite a bit of repair and remodeling. It's a huge pasture fence. We did our research and had several fence companies give us bids. We tipped our hat to North Sound Fence because they were on time as they scheduled, and assessed the job with professionalism and obvious skill. This was a difficult and challenging replacement and repair job that truly required a lot of knowledge, and these guys made it look easy with their professional skilled crew. They were always on time and worked through weather challenges and long dedicated days. Their office staff was always cheerful and showed genuine care. We have several more projects in the planning stages and there is only one choice for us to have do the work. We trust and appreciate North Sound Fence without needing any other bids. Thank you North Sound fence for your dedication and complete satisfaction.

Justin and his crew were great to work with. They showed up on time every day and got to work. Justin came up with a smart solution for our dog that liked to dig under the fence by using a concrete “mow strip” to deter that activity. We went with the pre-stained cedar and it looks great, so no having to stain it afterwards. Their prices were very reasonable and I’m very impressed with the quality of the work done. Definitely recommend!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Highly recommended… I contacted 14 companies to bid ~300’ of 6’ cedar fence (mod panel). 7 or 8 actually came out to provide an estimate. North Sound was very timely, they replied right away and Shawn was here a couple days later. Besides having the lowest bid, I could not find a negative review of this company. It was a no brainer. I couldn’t be more happy with their work! Go get other estimates until you tire, just make sure North Sound is one. You will not be disappointed!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Got over a dozen bids some companies never called back, prices were all over the place. We got a recommendation from someone we knew so with that and analyzing all the pros and cons of other companies we choose North Sound and couldn't be happier. They just completed a fence for part of our yard and we are having them back to do more next month. As the lyric from the Tina Turner song goes....They are simply the best better than all the rest.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They were excellent to work with. They were very responsive from our first call, to coming out to do the estimate, sending a bid in a timely manner, answering our follow-up questions, all the way through signing the contract and getting us on the schedule much faster than we anticipated, especially considering our yard has a weird configiration and needed some smaller than standard access gates that needed some "creativity" to make them work! The installation crew were efficient, friendly, and cleaned up after themselves. When we ran into an unanticipated problem in the back yard with an unknown/unmarked drainage line they were great about being flexible/changing the placement of the fence on the fly to make something that would work with everybody. And they even rolled with the neighbor doing a small add on to the fence to make everything work out for everybody involved. Would definitely recommend them for your fencing needs.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. North Sound Fence just completed about 200 linear feet of 6' Cedar fence (Mod-Panel, board on board) along our roadway frontage. We are beyond satisfied with every aspect of the work that they completed! We started by getting quotes from four different local fencing companies who had good user reviews. I wasn't planning to select a company on their bid price alone, I wanted to pick the company that seemed the most knowledgeable, had the ability to schedule our project without too much delay, and of course had a competitive price. In our case, North Sound was the best in all of those categories. Shawn came out and reviewed our site, took measurements, and discussed what we wanted. Then within 24 hours Denise emailed us a quote with several options that we discussed. Before hiring them, I ended up talking to both Denise and Shawn on the phone several times with questions, and they were always very knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive. In addition, they were the lowest bid, and they by far had the ability to schedule our project the soonest. One of the other companies had a bid ALMOST $5,000 (about 60%) higher than what North Sound quoted. That was the outlier though, and I think that company was so busy they didn't care about getting our business. The other quotes we received were all much more reasonable, but all the other companies told us it would be two months or more before they could start our project. North Sound said they could start our project in two weeks! So we hired them! Then, Denise got in touch saying that they could actually start our job a week early. So from the time we hired North Sound, it was literally less than a week (just enough time to get underground utility locates) until they started working. The first crew showed up and installed all of the posts within one day. Then a few days later, after the concrete cured, the finish crew came in and framed in the fence, installed the fence boards, and built two gates over the course of two days. The final product is flawless, and far exceeded our expectations. I am an Engineer in the heavy civil construction industry, and I was looking for problems and could not find any. Their work is beautiful. Great materials (lumber, hardware, etc) and excellent craftsmanship all around. They were also very courteous, showing up when they said they would, and spending about 20 minutes at the end of each day thoroughly cleaning up every scrap of construction debris, sweeping off our driveway where they were working, etc. They are just all around the kind of company that makes you feel like you made a wise and worthwhile decision in hiring them. I have hired other contractors in the past who are sloppy, disorganized, take forever, try to upsell, claim differing conditions cost more, etc etc. There was absolutely none of that from North Sound Fencing. This is just a great bunch of people running a very efficient and legitimate business operation, and providing a product that gave us the highest possible level of satisfaction. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't contact North Sound for your fencing project. Thank you so much to Shawn, Denise, Gary, and the rest of the awesome North Sound team!
